Saving Gardens: Creative Paths to Preservation - A Day Out with the President
What’s the most critical resource for saving a garden? Oftentimes it’s money. Join Garden Conservancy President & CEO James Hall and renowned landscape architect Craig Bergmann for coffee, pastries, and an exclusive tour of The Gardens at 900, Craig’s longtime showroom, office, and residence in Lake Forest, IL. This historic estate—designed over a century ago by architect David Adler for A. Watson and Elsa Armour—provides a compelling setting for a conversation about what it truly means to preserve a garden, and the varied approaches to funding that work. After years of neglect, the property was restored through an innovative financial model devised by Craig and his partner, Paul Klug, which combined home and office uses to make preservation possible.
