St. Louis, MO
About
The Garden at St. Andrews comprises numerous distinct areas to enjoy. The garden rooms around the home reflect prominent landscape architect Edith Mason’s original design in the brick patio, garden walls, and gates. Other traditional elements include a white border with hundreds of white daffodils planted in the ivy border, inspired by Vita Sackville- West’s Sissinghurst.
The serene plantings and metalwork in the gates around the pool nod to the University of Virginia’s Pavilion Gardens. In 2022, rewilding began around the large remnant woodland. As of 2024, 158 historic species have emerged including mayapples, old house daffodils ‘Butter and Eggs,’ wild sweet William, and skullcap.
Two cultivated garden beds provide the visual connection between the naturalistic woodland and the formal house gardens.
All areas do their part for the greater good, promoting wildlife habitat and attracting pollinators, songbirds, and even barred owls.
